Tomorrow’s weather is supposed to be phenomenal here in Boston, so if you’re looking to get out and about, look no further than the Cambridge Science Festival. In fact, MIT, Harvard University, and a bunch of other institutions are hosting all kinds of cool events and gatherings for the next nine days as part of this festival!
Tomorrow, the MIT Museum is letting everyone in for free! (They’re the festival presenter.) Plus, look for a special stuff going on all day at the Museum of Science. If you’re not looking for something specifically family-friendly, MIT is hosting all kinds of fun and informative stuff tomorrow including everything from a talk on what’s inside cell phones to a demonstration of a deep sea robotic arm.The Cambridge Public Library is hosting a talk called “Recycling: Where’s that stuff go?” for all you clean tech enthusiasts, and if none of those are up your alley, head for the Opening Day Science Carnival, which features almost 100 booths on everything from building small circuits to using Jello as a fiber optics.
That carnival, by the way, kicks off at 12:00 noon with a specially commissioned laser show to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the invention of the laser!
On Sunday, highlights include awesome physics demonstrations at MIT’s campus starting at 10:00am and a chance to “Read Your Own Genome!” at the Boston Open Source Science Lab, which costs $40, but hey… Mapping your genetic material ain’t cheap people!
Later in the afternoon, take a stroll along the Charles River (on the Cambridge side) and you’ll see an accurate-to-scale model of the solar system! Leslie University is even hosting a geology-based scavenger hunt.
This festival is massive, and there are literally hundreds of events, talks and presentations associated with it. You can find information on all of them at the festival’s schedule of events. With so many things going on in Cambridge as part of the festival, we’re confident there’s something for every geek.
