5 Big Boston Companies On YouTube

It's arrived. But what's worth checking out from Boston?

I’ve been rounding up some of the hottest things that are happening on Twitter and Facebook for you these past couple of months, but I have to admit I’ve been playing favorites; YouTube has been neglected. Now that it’s the equivalent of the second largest search engine, I felt it was time to give YouTube some more props.

But we’re not just giving YouTube a high-five, we’re recognizing some Boston companies  for making themselves known in the video social networking world. What better way to get your company’s out there than an awesome three-minute film that can be viewed so easily these days, from desktop computers to mobile phones. Boston’s going viral baby, here five companies that are making it happen.

Public relations company, Shift, headquartered in Brighton, Mass., competed in Puma‘s “Sprint Your Halls Off” contest. Puma went around to Boston to find the companies who could sprint down their office’s hallways the fastest. Armed with beer and a speedometer they made there way to the Shift offices; here’s what happened:

Office supplies super store, Staples is headquartered in Framingham, Mass., and it has its own YouTube channel. There’s not very much original content; they’ve only been pushing their television commercials, but if it hadn’t been for YouTube we wouldn’t have found this funny advertisement. This commercial has inspired hundreds of  YouTube parodies from all sorts of people. Prepare to laugh in the first three seconds of the video:

Did you know the Celtics have a YouTube channel? We gave you the rundown on their Twitter and Facebook activity a couple of weeks ago, but we’re taking it one step further by featuring this pump up video. The channel includes press conference footage, Celtic’s dancer profiles, and some weird footage of the Shelden Williams in Russia:

We’re a little obsessed with robots here at BostInnovation — iRobot comes up in conversations daily. We stumbled on iRobot’s YouTube channel, iRobot iTube. Yes, it’s an entire channel dedicated to robots and no, these are not just your everyday hands-free vacuum cleaners like the Roomba. iRobot’s 510 Packbot helps police explore potentially dangerous buildings:

The Museum of Fine Arts might be filled with history, but they’re embracing the 21st Century with a well-developed YouTube channel. If your looking for lectures and behind the scenes look at exhibits, the MFA’s YouTube channel is definitely worthwhile. Our favorite video was this awkward outdoor karaoke party; it’s a mix of bad vocals and interesting dancing. We dig the concept though:

What do you think about these company’s YouTube videos? Is YouTube worth there time? Who in Boston does a better job with their corporate video channel? Let us know in the comments.
