Three hometown heros in iPhone App development

It can be easy to get lost in the wild world of iPhone Apps. Not only can you get bogged down by useless (albeit funny) search results like iFart and Hold On!, it’s also so easy to create iPhone Apps these days that many websites and blogs are doing it just to say they have one.

So who do you consider when it’s time to get a serious iPhone App developed in Boston?

We scoured the Internet to find three no-holds-barred competitors in the area who are bidding for iPhone App glory on a long term scale. Here’s a quick list of three we like along with a few apps they’ve developed:

Abhav

Andover, Mass.-based Abhav was recently named winner of the Macworld 2010 T-shirt Design Contest, so you know their designers are legit. Mobile app development is their bread and butter, so they develop apps for all kinds of mobile platforms. Our favorite iPhone App from them is, Upcoming+ which goes through your contacts list and notifies you of your friends’ upcoming birthdays. To use it, you have to add the dates to your contacts first, but at least you don’t come across looking like a jerk the day after granny turns 90. Abhav also developed Domain Tracker, which helps you monitor your website’s traffic from the phone, and Cricket, which helps cricket fans keep track of scores in matches played worldwide.

Neutrinos

Neutrinos, based in Brighton, Mass., developed an iPhone App for the Dave Matthews Band. Their specialties are Facebook applications and iPhone Apps, but their site says they’re also working on Twitter tools. We like Baby Names, which helps expecting mother’s tackle that 9 month-long quest for the perfect name. They also did TipTotaler, great for the mathematically challenged, and iQ, which is an electronic version of the timeless 20 Questions game.

Wonder Warp

Wonder Warp is based in Cambridge, Mass., and they specialize in Mac and iPhone Apps. It looks like the company’s comprised of a small but spectacular team. Their top product is Shove Box, which helps you organize activities on both your Mac computer and your iPhone. Can’t get to something right now? Shove Box it! They also created SimpleChord, popular among music theorists, and PhoneFinger, which helps iPhone App developers test their products on Macs. Their website says they’re working on an application to help your company’s Customer Relations Management (CRM).
